Individual/Adolescent Therapy

Dr. Gereis offers online therapy to all current California residents.

Individual Therapy

Individuals may seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Oftentimes therapy is utilized to address concerns regarding difficulties with relationships, mood, anxiety, sleep, stressful or unanticipated life events, and other concerns. Therapy can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for an array of life challenges that individuals frequently face.

I offer individual therapy that is informed by an integration of the best research evidence available to treat a particular set of symptoms or disorder(s), while tailoring each treatment in the context of the individual’s unique characteristics, preferences, and culture.

I have expertise in treating a variety of issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Acculturation difficulties (e.g., immigration challenges)

  • Relationship challenges and transitions

  • Family concerns

  • Career challenges and transitions

  • Burnout

  • Life Balance

  • Self-esteem and body image

  • Existential Concerns

  • Adjustment Reactions to Life Transitions and Stress

  • Anxiety Disorders (e.g., Generalized Anxiety and Panic Disorders)

  • Sleep Disorders (e.g., Insomnia Disorders)

  • Mood Disorders (e.g., Depressive and Bipolar Disorders)

  • Trauma-Related Disorders

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Related Disorders

Adolescent Therapy

Being an adolescent in today's world is hard; between challenges of navigating peer and family relationships, and dealing with social media and related pressures, many teens are struggling to adapt. I understand that sometimes behavioral issues, anxiety and mood changes are normal with teens, but sometimes they need a space to be able to sort out what is developmentally appropriate and what is taking away from their quality of life.

I can help teens with the issues below, but not limited to:

  • Overthinking/worrying

  • Feeling overly sad

  • Self-harm or suicidality

  • Bullying

  • Peer relationships

  • Substance use related issues

  • Issues with family members

  • Social media addiction

  • Body image concerns

Tips for a Successful Online Therapy Session

  • Try to find a safe, comfortable, and private place with limited distractions to conduct the session.

  • Be sure that you're using an up-to-date web browser, such as the latest version of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox. Please note that you cannot join telehealth sessions using Internet Explorer.

  • Make sure that you're connected to a strong, secured Wi-Fi signal. If you're joining a telehealth session on your phone, connect to Wi-Fi instead of using cellular data, if possible. If the Wi-Fi connection is not strong, disable Wi-Fi and use cellular data only.

  • Close any applications or browser tabs that you don't need prior to the session. This allows your device's processing power to be dedicated to maintaining a high-quality video call.

  • Grab a pair of headphones to use for your session. Using headphones helps to prevent voice echo.

  • Try to have some tissues in hand just in case you may need them.

  • Have a phone number you can use to call your provider in case you get disconnected.
